Grand Café de Burcht

At the foot of the Burcht, you will find our Grand Café. A place with character, warmth, and space. Here you can have drinks with friends, enjoy a good lunch, or stay for a long evening filled with fine wines, good food, and pleasant conversations.

The Burcht is perhaps the oldest part of Leiden. As early as the 11th century, there was a round fortress on an artificial hill, built to protect the city where the Rijn and the Mare meet. For centuries, the Burcht overlooked life in the city, and it is still one of the most recognizable places in Leiden.

​At the foot of that history, you will find our grand café. In a building that has its own many stories, we prefer to serve a good glass than to defend the city. But the feeling has remained: this is a place to come together. To toast, to eat, to celebrate, to have drinks.

A good moment deserves a good place. A place where atmosphere arises naturally, where you welcome people as you would at home, but with just a bit more space, attention, and service. At Grand Café de Burcht, you will find that place.

Inside, we have three rooms: The Grand Café and the Serre on the 1st floor, and the Tuinzaal on the ground floor. All are wheelchair accessible. Suitable for lunches, dinners, drinks, and meetings of all kinds and sizes. We ensure that everything is perfect so you can toast, eat, talk, or dance, while we take care of everything in the background.

The Tuinzaal is a cozy, bright space, perfect for a meeting, presentation, drinks, dinner, or party with a larger group. Secluded from the rest, but still with the vibrancy of De Burcht. It is also possible to rent (part of) our Grand Café or Serre. Outside, we have our inner garden (adjacent to the Tuinzaal) and our terrace (adjacent to the Grand Café), both with a beautiful view of the Burcht of Leiden. Tuinzaal, Serre, Grand Café, and outdoor spaces can also be combined for an event or party of up to 450 people.
