The Beginning of an Empire
It's 1997. Two friends - working in the IT industry and at an oil company - fondly reminisce about their first love: the hospitality industry. They decide to change course. Stephan van den Akker and Mirco Cuppens are thus at the start of a company that would later successfully embrace three event venues.
Various locations are considered. The common thread: historical buildings that once belonged to multinationals. Stephan says, "We are drawn to such monumental buildings. Their charisma and grandeur are unparalleled. Only at those locations can we offer what we consider important: quality, ambiance, and hospitality."
Modern with classic elements
In 1999, the duo acquired their second location, Landgoed Te Werve, which would be grouped together with Kasteel de Hooge Vuursche under the name Event Company. "I always love to completely restore and furnish a new location in our style," says Mirco. "Modern, yet with the classic elements that suit the venue. The satisfaction you feel when you then notice that people enjoy coming here; that's what we do it for."
Since 2016 outdoor venue Te Werve Buiten was added. "The Estate spans an impressive 26 hectares. So much nature in the heart of the Randstad, and we wanted to make better use of it. Of course, this shouldn't come at the expense of the events organized in the mansion. That's why Te Werve Buiten became the counterpart to the stately mansion: informal and industrial, with a huge flex tent for the ultimate festival atmosphere. And of course, right in the middle of nature!" The new concept has proven to be a success.
Looking to the future
Stephan and Mirco returned to the hospitality industry because it's such a delightful sector where you are constantly focused on making your guests happy. "It's hard work, of course, but you receive a lot of appreciation for it," Stephan says. It's time to look to the future. He continues, "At our locations, we cater to small-scale meetings and gatherings of up to three hundred people at most. That suits us, and we probably will never acquire a mega-sized venue. However, what we are considering is what we can do with the 19-hectare estate around Kasteel de Hooge Vuursche. We're facing the challenge of not having enough hotel rooms. So, we're toying with the idea of doing something with Tiny Houses, for example. That idea is still in the exploratory phase, so keep an eye on us for updates!"
