Café Restaurant De Baanderij is a café-restaurant and event location at the NDSM wharf in Amsterdam-Noord. The venue can accommodate up to 500 people, has a terrace with 160 seats directly by the IJ, and features two private rooms. De Baanderij is located in the building at the quay where the IJ-Kantine was recently situated. The building dates back to 1957 and was the canteen of the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij, with offices, a drawing room, and an assembly hall above it.

The name comes from the 1980s. When the wharf had to downsize, former employees continued to meet in this building, united in the Interest Association of Jobless Shipbuilders. Jobless, but with plenty of work. Thus, it became De Baanderij.

You can see that history reflected in the space: high ceilings, large windows, and an industrial shell. This means that even with a full room, it does not feel cramped. Residents and entrepreneurs at the wharf call the venue the pearl of Amsterdam-Noord.

The venue offers various options for small groups and large gatherings:

The rooms can be booked separately or combined. With full rental, you have access to the entire venue, both indoors and outdoors.

From drinks to dinner and party

You welcome your guests on the terrace by the IJ, overlooking the passing ships and the skyline across the water. In less favorable weather, you can move inside under the high windows.

Afterward, you move the group to the Vide with fireplace for a private part, or to the Private Room for a dinner with its own bar. Both rooms keep the group together without closing off the rest of the venue.

Once dinner is ready, the setting changes. The stage, DJ booth, and LED lighting are already set up, so you don’t have to hire anything to turn it into a party.

This way, your program flows from reception to dinner and informal gathering, without changing locations.

The terrace by the IJ

The terrace has 160 seats and is right by the water. For many groups, this is the reason to choose De Baanderij.

For a networking drink or relationship event, the open layout works to your advantage: guests can easily move between indoors and outdoors and do not stay in fixed groups.

The terrace can be booked separately or combined with the indoor spaces. On weekends, De Baanderij itself programs drinks, live music, and DJs.

Exclusive event location for up to 500 people

Are you organizing a larger corporate party, staff party, or wedding? Then you can rent De Baanderij exclusively for up to 500 people.

You will have access to the entire venue, the terrace by the IJ, the bar, and the kitchen. Together with the event team, you can put together the program. Think of a reception on the terrace, followed by dinner indoors and a party with a DJ late into the night. This way, corporate and informal elements can flow together within the same location.

Catering, technology, and accessibility

Food and drinks are fully provided by De Baanderij. The kitchen is led by chef Marco Geurts and is French at its core with Mediterranean influences. Menus are tailored to your needs, from snacks at the drinks to a multi-course dinner or breakfast for a multi-day program. Vegetarian, vegan, halal, and kosher dishes are available.
