About the venue

You are organizing more than just a meeting or corporate event at Museum of Humanity. The industrial environment, human portraits, and flexible spaces provide your gathering with a personal backdrop where meeting and connecting naturally become part of the day.
Museum of Humanity is a museum, meeting location, and event venue on the Hembrug site in Zaandam. You can rent the venue for meetings, team days, training sessions, product presentations, exhibitions, receptions, company parties, and corporate festivals. Photo shoots and TV recordings are also possible. From a meeting with ten colleagues to events with hundreds of guests: the museum can be set up for different group sizes.
Why choose Museum of Humanity in Zaandam?
Museum of Humanity started in 2001 with a dream from photographer Ruben Timman. A dilapidated museum symbolized the state of humanity. That dream grew into a mission to portray people with dignity and equality. Nearly ten thousand people have been portrayed worldwide since then.
This history makes this location different from a traditional event space. During your gathering, you literally look out at portraits and stories of people. This provides a natural reason for conversations, team days, and corporate events to look beyond the program alone.

The venue is suitable for:

  • meetings, training sessions, and team days
  • product presentations and exhibitions
  • company parties and corporate festivals
  • summer parties and winter receptions
  • photo shoots and TV recordings

For gatherings focused on connection, culture, or social impact, the venue also aligns well with the content. Museum of Humanity operates from the premise that truly looking at another contributes to greater understanding.

Rooms & capacity
Museum of Humanity offers various options for plenary programs, break-outs, and smaller discussions. You rent the entire venue. The large hall has an area of 353 m² and can be flexibly arranged.

  • large industrial hall of 353 m²
  • small hall for workshops and break-out sessions
  • cozy spots for discussions in small groups
  • large outdoor space with lawns
  • options for plenary and informal setups
  • from smaller gatherings to events with hundreds of guests

The large hall provides space for, for example, a plenary session, catering, and various activities within the same program. The small hall is located directly next to this space. This allows for easy switching between a joint program and smaller working sessions. Museum of Humanity considers the small hall suitable for workshops, training sessions, meetings, and break-outs.

An event that naturally changes shape
You might start plenarily among the colorful Humanity portraits. Then, colleagues spread out for workshops or break-outs. A smaller group uses the adjacent hall, while others look for a quiet spot in the museum.
Need a break? Walk among the portraits and stories. Or step outside for a walk around the industrial Hembrug site. This former site for the production of artillery and weapons is now an area with greenery, creative makers, and cultural spots.
In front of the museum, there is an open outdoor space with various lawns. In the summer, you can use this for a reception, break-out session, barbecue, or team-building activity. A walk along the water can also be part of your program.
In colder weather, the gathering stays indoors. The industrial hall can then be made warm and intimate. This way, you can switch within one location from presentation to workshop, reception, dinner, or party.

Practical & transparent
Museum of Humanity is located at Ketelhuis 10, 1505 RD in Zaandam, right in the middle of the Hembrug site. The museum is housed in a former munitions factory and has consciously retained its raw, industrial character.
For business gatherings, various facilities and setups are possible:

  • multiple TV screens
  • sound system throughout the building
  • flexible room setups
  • space for external or custom catering
  • outdoor space for activities and breaks
  • parking spaces for groups

Catering and decoration can be tailored to your program. The museum works with partners where necessary. Inquire in advance about the options, setups, and current prices.
Good to know: the characteristic building has an uneven floor in some places. This does not pose a problem for wheelchair users. According to the latest visitor information, there is no toilet available in the museum building itself. Therefore, discuss in advance which facilities will be available during your event.

Give your team day extra meaning
You can use the museum not only as a backdrop. Museum of Humanity also offers activities that connect with meeting, seeing, and connecting.
Think of the workshop 'Seeing & Being Seen', a viewing and wonder assignment through the museum, or activities aimed at connection within your team. You can also opt for movement and relaxation, a pub quiz, or new team photos in the recognizable Humanity style.
Another option is an inspiring session with founder Ruben Timman. This way, the story behind the thousands of portraits becomes part of your gathering. Museum of Humanity offers these activities as an addition to business events.

Social impact as part of your gathering
Museum of Humanity also works with organizations on greater understanding, equality, and humanity in the workplace through Humanity at Work. This allows you to combine a business gathering with substantive deepening around collaboration and connection.
Does your organization have an SROI obligation? Then you can spend part of your SROI budget at Museum of Humanity.
Museum of Humanity is also a cultural ANBI.
