About the space

The national monument wood drying shed of the mill site De Otter in Amsterdam has recently been fully renovated and made more sustainable, with respect for the historical value of the location. The wood drying shed, originally an essential part of the sawmill powered by the sawmill De Otter for centuries, has retained its characteristic appearance, respecting the original woodwork and traditional building style.

The restoration has made the building future-proof through insulation with sustainable materials and an innovative heating system (aquathermy). At the same time, much attention has been paid to the historical elements, such as the national monument trusses, to preserve the heritage.

The restored wood drying shed now serves as a tribute to the (almost) 400 years of rich history of the sawmill. The wood drying shed is used as a multifunctional space, among other things for educational activities, cultural and business events.
