About the venue

Molenterrein De Otter is not a conventional event location, but a protected national monument and a museum in development. Molen van West is a historical urban oasis in Amsterdam-West, on the grounds of Molen De Otter – the oldest still operating wooden sawmill in the world.

Here, heritage, sustainability, and creativity come together. A place where meaningful encounters can take place: in the middle of the city, but outside of time.

The location focuses on substantive, cultural, and socially oriented gatherings. The income from these events directly contributes to the preservation and further development of the monument. As a heritage location, and not as a specially equipped event venue, every gathering requires customization: all equipment and furniture are carefully brought in, making the setup intensive and attentive to the historical character of the place.

That is exactly what makes Molen van West special. The monumental character of the mill, the open mill grounds in the middle of the city, and the beautifully renovated warehouses create a unique environment that stays with visitors.

The location consists of a national monument mill from 1631, which still saws wood, and two characterful warehouses – WATER and WIND. – for events, sessions, dinners, and meetings. The buildings are sustainably heated with aquathermy. Molen van West won the SBIR Innovation Award 'Sustainable Heritage' and the PROVADA Inspiration Award 2025.

The place is particularly suitable for cultural institutions, impact organizations, policymakers, strategy teams, top consultancies, embassies, law and notary offices, financial institutions, creative agencies, food and design brands, visionaries, and artists.

And above all: a place with soul. A historical urban oasis where heritage is not only preserved but comes to life again.
